PRESS RELEASE Nº88
The bloody mine explosion on KIBUMBA-GOMA road is the work of RPF
After a short lull, RPF death squads have resumed their terrorist campaign in Eastern Zaïre.
The latest mine explosion that killed two people and injured more than thirty others on the road from the camp of KIBUMBA to GOMA is meant to make life unbearable in that camp and force refugees to meet the deadline of December 1996 on which RPF wants all refugees to have been coerced to return back home.
Times and again, RDR has called upon the international community to take strong measures and refrain RPF from extending its terrorist campaign in neighbouring countries accommodating refugees, but this call seems to have fallen on death ears.
RDR warns that, should RPF main backers fail to send unequivocal signals that they are not prepared to condone terrorism whatever the victims, the international community should expect more bloody incidents in all countries sheltering refugees.
While expressing its deepest sorrow and conveying its whole hearted sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims, RDR calls upon all humanitarian organisations in Eastern Zaïre not to give in to RPF blackmailing and continue their operations despite the hardship that they may be going through.
RDR lastly invites the Zairian authorities to beef up security along the rwandan border, because more incursions are yet to come.
