RALLY FOR RETURN

AND DEMOCRACY IN RWANDA

R.D.R

Mugunga, May 10, 1995

PRESS RELEASE Nš5

RDR condemns the act by the Burundi Army on May 9, 1995 to deport by force and hand over to RPA, 400 rwandese civilians who had managed to flee to Burundi.

This gesture is in total violation of the international law pertaining on the assistance to refugees.

RDR requests the international community to closely monitor the fate of tens of thousands of hutu who were forced out of camps for internally displaced people, particularly KIBEHO camp; who in most cases, were imprisoned, or killed by the RPA contrary to statement by President Bizimungu according which everybody who surrendered and went back home is safe.

The Rwandese people has no more trust in RPF government.

The commission of enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the KIBEHO massacres by RPA should monitor as well the movements of these populations so as to throw light on the fate they met on their villages and in army cells.

RDR requests the Burundi government to revisit its decision and assist these people who flee from death, their deportation to Rwanda amounting to suicide.

RDR requests the Tanzanian authorities to reopen its borders and rescue innocents civilians being massacred by RPF.

RDR draws the attention of the international community on its responsibilities in condoning the Kigali government massacres of innocent populations.

RDR requests the Kigali government to abandon its policy of violence and repression and adopt a dynamic of peace and reconciliation.

RDR is of the view that political dialogue and national reconciliation is the only way that can put an end to the calvary of rwandese people.
